A Belt of 19 Expended CIWS Cartridges and an All-Up Dummy Round
Object/Artifact
A belt of 19 expended CIWS cartridges 20 mm Mark 149 mod 1 and an all-up dummy round, clipped together with links, all obtained from the USS New Jersey (BB-62). These were used with a Phalanx Mark 15 Mod 0 gun system. The Mark 149 mod 1 is an armor piercing discarding sabot. The penetrator is a depleted uranium slug. The cartridge uses an electric primer. These rounds were produced by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.
NOTE: The dummy round is solid, not a discarding sabot.
