STEM Summer Adventure Camp

One of the Battleship IOWA’s three core pillars along with Veterans and Community is Education.

Our premiere education offering is the STEM Summer Adventure Camp. Campers experiment with buoyancy and energy, practice different forms of ship-to-ship communication, learn the basics of marine navigation, build prototype rockets to investigate projectile motion, and more!

The South Bay staple is for students in first through eighth grades and is happening in person at the Battleship IOWA Museum. History and science will join together to introduce students to valuable scientific and engineering concepts as they were applied in the design and operation of the historic battleship, which earned the nicknames “The Big Stick” and the “Mighty I” during her years in service.

Each week-long session is tailored to specific grade levels, ensuring the activities are engaging and lessons are academically relevant to each participant. All activities comply with current health department guidelines for COVID-19 and include in-depth tours of various ship compartments, discussions with crew members who are continuously working to restore the ship, and a variety of exciting and engaging STEM activities.

Camp sessions will be held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. All campers will receive individual activity supplies, a daily snack, and a camp t-shirt.

The normal summer camp cost is $110. Thanks to the Port of LA local LA harbor community families can attend for free when they apply for a Community Investment Grant.
