Southern California Wild Fires

January 8, 2025

We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the ongoing fires across Southern California. Our hearts go out to all those affected, including the incredible number of first responders fighting to keep people safe. Pacific Battleship Center is working with the City of LA to provide assistance.

To join us in this effort, you may click the button below to donate. All contributions will directly support ongoing disaster relief efforts in Los Angeles.

Our organization collaborates with the City to support a variety of disaster preparedness and response, public safety training exercises, and leadership forums and more to create more resilient communities.

Thank you for supporting and strengthening our community.

SoCal Fires

On January 7th, major fires broke out in the foothills of Los Angeles mountain ranges. Driven by heavy winds, these fires currently are at 0% containment.

At the time of this writing, approximately 27,000 acres have burned, more than 70,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate their homes, schools have been closed, and fire fighters and first responders are working around the clock to combat no fewer than six massive blazes.

The death toll is rising and the number of structures – mostly residential – lost will be staggering, with entire communities expected to be completely gone.

In case you’re wondering, Battleship IOWA and the Port of Los Angeles are safe. We are more than thirty miles from the affected areas.

We were prepared to weather predicted 100 mph gusts, but fortunately they never materialized here. There is a layer of visible smoke and fine ash falling across the South Bay and Harbor regions, but there has been no damage to the ship during this event.
