40 mm All-Up Round
Object/Artifact
40 mm all-up round for Bofors gun. Casing is brass. Shell and fuze are painted steel. Rotating drive band is copper, and does not have any marks from having been seated into a barrel.The fuze cap on the shell is painted red (tip) and yellow (band), signifying Incendiary / Dark Ignition Tracer. The body is painted green, signifying High Explosive Filler, possibly with a black band (which would indicate no self-destruct relay in tracer element). Primer appears to bear firing pin impact marks.
Rotating drive band is marked: Mk 2-5 Lot 1846.
Casing base flange is marked:
