Announcing More Award Recipients
The 2024 Freedom of the Seas Awards weekend is about two months away and we’re excited to reveal two more of this year’s awards recipients.
The Humanitarian Service Award recognizes those who exemplify the fearless bravery and tenacity necessary to sail through troubled waters to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief as a core principle of America’s Surface Navy.
Our 2024 recipient Lisa Argyros serves as co-chair of the Argyros Family Foundation, whose mission is to focus on children and after-school programs, education, health care, hospitals, and the arts. Lisa expands her personal philanthropic outreach to help veterans, women and girls, those with food insecurities, and internationally, to promote economic independence and sustainability in Eastern African communities.
“It is an honor for us to present Lisa with this prestigious award in recognition of her family’s generous philanthropy in the education and healthcare industries across Southern California and beyond,” stated retired Navy Rear Admiral Mike Shatynski, Chairman of the Board of the National Museum of the Surface Navy. “The philanthropic work of Lisa and the Argyros Family Foundation, which has included direct support of our education and veterans programs, upholds a core principle of America’s Surface Navy by exemplifying extraordinary bravery and tenacity to help deliver health, safety, and relief to people around the world.”
The Commerce and Communication Award recognizes leaders in commercial shipping and communications that embody a core principle of the Surface Navy in utilizing the ocean for the benefit of the free world.
International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) has been selected by the NMSM to receive the annual Freedom of the Seas Commerce and Communications Award for its critical role in keeping the cargo moving throughout the pandemic and for its contributions to the tremendous economic growth that has been experienced across the country.
“The men and women of the ILWU are proud to not only serve as key stakeholders in the global supply chain, but also to play a critical role in our national defense through supporting critical military operations,” explained Gary Herrera, President, ILWU Local 13. “As Americans, we must always remain vigilant to defend the freedoms we enjoy, as well as the freedom of maritime navigation, from those who wish to undermine our way of life and democratic leadership of the world.”
Our annual Freedom of the Seas Awards take place October 19th, 2024. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
