Spend the Night Aboard a Legendary Battleship

Ever wonder what it would be like to spend the night aboard a U.S. Navy battleship?

Camp Battleship gives youth groups an unforgettable opportunity to experience life aboard the historic Battleship IOWA. Participants explore the ship, learn the skills to be a sailor, eat on the mess decks, sleep in authentic sailor berthing, and experience the sights, sounds, spaces, and traditions of life at sea.

More than simply a night aboard, Camp Battleship is an immersive experience designed to build teamwork, leadership, confidence, and connection while introducing participants to the people, history, careers, technology, and traditions of the maritime industry and United States Navy.

 

An Overnight Adventure Unlike Any Other

From the moment your group comes aboard, Battleship IOWA becomes your home for the night.

Your overnight experience includes:

  • Late-afternoon arrival, muster, and shipboard orientation
  • Guided activities aboard the historic Battleship IOWA
  • Dinner on the ship's mess decks
  • Incredible nighttime views of the Port of Los Angeles, the busiest port complex in the western hemisphere
  • Evening activities / educational programming
  • Sleeping in authentic Navy-style berthing racks
  • Breakfast aboard the ship
  • A firsthand look at what life was like for the sailors who lived and served aboard a U.S. Navy battleship

You'll climb ladders, navigate passageways, sleep where sailors slept, and experience Battleship IOWA in a way most visitors never will.

Who Can Participate?

Camp Battleship is designed for organized youth groups, including:

  • Scouts
  • JROTC and military youth organizations
  • Schools and student groups
  • YMCA and community organizations
  • Church and faith-based youth groups
  • Homeschool groups
  • Sports teams and clubs
  • Traveling youth organizations
  • Other organized groups

Participants must be at least 6 years old.

Adult chaperones are required at a minimum ratio of one adult for every 10 minors.

Camp Battleship can accommodate groups of up to 180 participants per night, subject to availability.

Sleep Where Sailors Slept

This isn't a hotel.

Participants sleep in the ship's actual crew berthing areas in Navy-style racks similar to those used by the sailors who called Battleship IOWA home.

The experience provides a rare opportunity to step beyond simply learning about naval history and actually spend a night surrounded by it.

For one evening, you're not just visiting the ship.

You're become a part of the crew.

Plan Your Overnight

Camp Battleship dates are available by advance reservation and are subject to availability.

To request an overnight, submit the reservation Request Form with your group's information and your top three preferred dates.

Once your date is confirmed, our team will help guide you through the planning process.

Before Your Overnight

Groups will be required to:

  • Submit the required deposit within two weeks of reservation confirmation
  • Pay the remaining balance at least two weeks before the overnight
  • Provide a Certificate of Insurance naming Pacific Battleship Center as additionally insured
  • Submit a participant roster, including dietary needs and food allergies, at least two weeks before the overnight
  • Complete required participant releases and forms
  • Provide the required number of adult chaperones

Specific program schedules, requirements, meal information, packing instructions, accessibility considerations, and other details will be provided as part of the reservation process.
