World War II USMC Commissioned Officer Saber with Sheath
Object/Artifact
World War II United States Marine Corps commissioned officer saber and scabbard manufactured by Hilborn and Hamburger, Inc. Per an original tag found on the carrying case (obj. number 1000225) the grip is made of plastic (to mimic ivory without becoming brittle) and has a dark brown braided leather tassel . The mountings and fittings are all solid brass with gold plating. The blade and scabbard are made of steel. The blade is decorated with engravings. Both sides of the blade are engraved with "United States Marines" with the flag and a naval crest and floral looking scroll pattern. The name D.M. Blomgren is also on one side of the saber. The body of the scabbard is plain with the exception of designs on the brass fittings.
