LEGACY GIVING: Debunking Myths
Charitable giving comes in many forms. More importantly, considering the positive impact we could have on those we love – and the causes we care about supporting most – can help us choose how and when we give.
By joining our John Paul Jones Legacy Society, you are investing in our mission and honoring those who serve, educating future generations, and empowering communities.
DEBUNKING SOME COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS
MISCONCEPTION 1: “It’s too complicated”.
Usually, when people think of estate planning, they think of complicated documents and multiple trips to an attorney. But rest assured, it’s not that complicated. The simplicity and joy may surprise you.
We can’t predict how long we have to plan what we leave for those we love and the charities we care about supporting most. There’s no better time than the present to make plans for these important gift decisions, which let’s you see the impact your gifts have on the people and causes you support.
MISCONCEPTION 3: It’s only for the super rich.”
Simply not true! Anybody can make a planned gift. Whether it’s $200 or $2 million, gifts of all sizes can make a difference. Plus, gifts don’t have to be in cash. We encourage you to learn more about the assets you can leave by clicking the button below, contacting our development team, or speaking with your planned giving advisor.
To make it even more relatable, here’s Battleship IOWA volunteer and retired US Navy Captain, Rich Abele’s testimonial for joining the John Paul Jones Legacy Society:
“I consider it a privilege and honor to provide legacy support to the Pacific Battleship Center (aka National Museum of the Surface Navy). For the past ten years, Battleship IOWA has been my ‘go to’ retirement activity. Preserving this 80-year-old, iconic warship – the “battleship of presidents” – is extremely important so that the National Museum of the Surface Navy can be built to educate visitors about the Navy’s role in protecting our freedoms, providing humanitarian assistance, and keeping our seal lanes open for the free trade of international commerce.
“Having served in the U.S. Navy for over 30 years, I can relate to the important missions that Battleship IOWA performed, and it is essential that stories like hers can be shared with future generations and those serving presently to understand and enjoy.”
