Battleship IOWA Update of 05/04/20 – Reopening?

IOWA Family: I am truly touched by the nationwide support we have received during this crisis from friends, family, and crew alike.   We continue to closely monitor California Reopening plans and as currently stated, it appears that we may not be able to open for months.  This kind of delay would result in a significant impact to our entire organization and frankly doesn’t take into account our ability to implement measures such as an outdoor park like location.  We take our responsibility...

STEM Lesson: Bullseye

Attention students, parents, and teachers. Your Battleship IOWA education team is here with some Friday fun. Time to learn about strange things on the battleship! This yellow square is called a "bullseye." It's a code that acts like a map to tell you where you are on the ship. The first line is the most important. Works like this: 1st number: which deck or level you're on 2nd number: which frame you're near - there is a frame every 4 feet and the numbering starts at the bow 3rd number: which...

Week of 04/27/20 Update

IOWA Family: I hope this note finds you and your family safe and well. As always, thank you for your support during these challenging times. There is no doubt that the tourism and museum industries are tremendously affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a non-profit museum, our largest revenue source is generated from tour admissions followed by donations, overnights and events. Week of 04/19/20

IOWA Family: We start off this week continuing our preparation for an eventual “social distancing” reopen. As a primarily outdoor museum, we are in a unique position to modify our tour products to reduce capacity, eliminate areas of potential congestion, disinfect all commonly touched areas, virtual working for those able, and require masks upon entry. We are hopeful that our local officials will accept this plan and allow us to reopen with other outdoor recreation areas such as parks,...

A Brief Update – 04/13/20

IOWA Family: Thank you to all of the generous contributors and supporters since the beginning of this crisis.  We have received a tremendous outpouring of love and support including major contributions to help us pay the critical expenses and payroll in the coming weeks and months. We continue to closely monitor the evolving situation and potential for reopening.  Recently the City and County of Los Angeles extended their safe at home order until May 15th.  We suspect that we will be delayed...

Week of 04/07/20 Update

IOWA Family: Our board and leadership team hope that you and your family are staying safe in your respective communities these coming weeks. I decided to send via text this week, as I am working safe at home and frankly my hair is a bit overgrown at the moment. We have been blessed with tremendous support across the Nation through well wishes and financial contributions. Our crew continues their efforts maintaining critical functions aboard the ship including maintenance, administration,...
