Here We Go!
Are you ready? 2025 – the year we’ve been eagerly anticipating has arrived.
We’ll open the first phase of the National Museum of the Surface Navy (NMSN) on October 13th, and there will be plenty of excitement in the ten months leading up to it.
All year we’ll be showcasing the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy, celebrating its rich history and highlighting major milestones. The usual events and activities will come your way as well:
-
- Gravely Student Luncheon in February
- Turret II remembrance on April 19th
- LA Fleet Week, Freedom of the Seas Leadership Summit, and Memorial Day in May
- NMSN opening and Freedom of the Seas Awards Weekend in October
- Veterans Day in November
- Pearl Harbor remembrance in December
It’s going to be epic and we want you to be part of it!
Take a few minutes and check out this preview from CEO Jonathan Williams.
Blind Descent
Seeking a new challenge at the conclusion of his career as a Navy aviation rescue swimmer, Brian Dickinson took up mountaineering. His intention was the “seven summits” – climbing the highest peak on each continent.
He never could have imagined what was in store for him on the world’s tallest mountain.
Come hear his epic tale in person aboard Battleship IOWA Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
Brian’s written books about his experiences – Blind Descent and Calm In The Chaos: true tales from elite U.S. Navy aviation rescue swimmers. They will be available for purchase at the event, or you can find them at all the usual booksellers. (Yes, he’s willing to sign them.)
This event is free, but please sign up on Eventbrite to let us know you’re coming.

Escape The Mothball Fleet
CEO Jonathan Williams talked about getting Battleship IOWA out of the Navy’s Suisun Bay reserve fleet in one of his recent updates. Ever wonder what it was like to be part of the team that took on that immense challenge in 2011?
Escape The Mothball Fleet is an unorthodox way to tour a ship. It’s a game designed to give you a taste of what they experienced. You’ll blow past “Authorized Personnel Only” signs to explore passageways and decks not usually open to the public, looking for items that prove the ship is ready to tow.
They had six weeks to complete their list. You’ll have two hours.
Up to the task? Come try your luck and see if you can save IOWA!
