Hull Preservation 2021 Campaign Week 4

Commitment to our Community

One of Battleship IOWA’s three core pillars is Community. We are grateful to be part of our wonderful LA Harbor and SoCal community, and we do our best to contribute in as many ways as possible. You likely know about free events we host, such as LA Fleet Week and Movies Under The Guns, but there’s another way we support the community we call home.

We make the ship available as a training venue for our first responders. Groups ranging from Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams, to local police and fire departments, and many more, take advantage of our complex vessel to test their methods in an unusual and challenging environment. We even hosted an international rescue teams competition in 2019.

Battleship IOWA is full of dark, hard-to-access spaces that force these groups to think out-of-the-box to accomplish their goals. If they can rescue a “victim” trapped in a confined space down a vertical ladder deep within the ship, they can rescue someone just about anywhere!

Keeping our foundation – our hull – in good shape allows us to continue to host first responder training. Well-trained first responders make our community safer.

Click the photo below to check out some footage from a recent visit by US Customs and Border Protection, who boarded the ship with a couple of robots!

Your gift of any amount to our Hull Preservation Campaign not only helps us maintain the hull but it ensures our first responders and USAR teams can continue to train aboard the USS IOWA.

The Matches Keep Coming!

We’re pressing on toward our goal of $200,000 by May 26, 2021. In our last email we told you about support we received in the form of two matching donations – both of which were matched almost faster than we could share them with you.

Last Friday, we got another amazing donation: an anonymous supporter offered to match donations dollar for dollar up to $10,000. Then just this past week, an Anonymous Richmond Crew Member offered to match another $5000. Unbelievable! So that means our current match is $15,000!

Jump in now and have your gift doubled!

Are you interested in joining the trend and sponsoring a match? If so, reach out to our VP of Development & Marketing, Joleen Deatherage. The match can be any amount – it’s a fun way to inspire our supporters and reach our goal. You can even run your own campaign by challenging your friends and family to match your gift!

If you need assistance making your donation, email our development team.  You can also mail a check to:

Pacific Battleship Center
250 South Harbor Blvd.
San Pedro, CA 90731

Thank you for your support!

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy, the Month of the Military Child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices they make and the challenges they overcome. We salute them!

Wearing purple is a visible way for everyone to show support and thank military youth for their strength and sacrifices. You can also make a donation in honor of a military child. Your gift will support our Youth Education and Veterans Programs at the Battleship IOWA.
