Museum Update June 4, 2021

To Infinity… And Beyond!

Remember back in October when our parking lot was turned into a drive in movie theatre? Everyone had a blast and wanted more, so just in time to kick off summer, we’re partnering with Councilmember Joe Buscaino to make it happen again.

And we’re starting it off with a blast from the past: the original TOY STORY!

Pack the kids into the car and drive on down to Battleship IOWA on Saturday, June 12. Film starts at 8:00 PM!

No tickets required. Check our Facebook event for details.

Be sure to enter at Harbor & Swinford.

Hull Preservation Campaign Wrap Up

We’ve closed our official 2021 HULL PRESERVATION campaign, but that doesn’t mean we’re finished raising money to preserve our hull.

We received one final match in the last week of the campaign. Capt. Rich Abele, who kicked things off with our first match, is closing it out with a second one… and we’re just $2,000.00 away from winning it!

Jump in and help us hit this last goal!  Donate Now

If you’ve donated already, we are super grateful. But please help us get the $5,000 from Rich and raise another $10,000 for the hull! Tell a friend, heck, tell a couple friends! You can include our eye-opening video show why we need to attend to the work NOW. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/O2oE7TkfpkY

If you’d like to send a check, please mail to:

Pacific Battleship Center
250 South Harbor Blvd.
San Pedro, CA 90731
Attn: Hull Preservation Campaign

If you need assistance making your donation over the phone, please contact Matthias Leier at 877-446-9261 ext. 746.

A million thanks for your support!

Memorial Day 2021

In 2020 circumstances forced us to mark Memorial Day with little more than social media posts. We weren’t going to miss this important holiday this year, so we used our new live stream system to make our remembrance available virtually.

Organized and hosted by Veterans and Military Affairs Manager Janice Bowman, the ceremony featured a color guard, a special remembrance for POW/MIA personnel, and a moving keynote speech by Vice President of Development and Marketing Joleen Deatherage.

If you didn’t see it live, you can catch a replay here.

Summer Camp Is Back!

The popular in-person, STEM summer camp adventure for students in first through eighth grades at the Battleship IOWA Museum starts in just ten days! History and science will join together to introduce students to valuable scientific and engineering concepts as they were applied in the design and operation of the historic battleship.

Each week-long session is tailored to specific grade levels, ensuring the activities are engaging and lessons are academically relevant to each participant. All activities comply with current health department guidelines for COVID-19 and include in-depth tours of various ship compartments, discussions with crew members who are continuously working to restore the ship, and a variety of exciting and engaging STEM activities.

There are still spots and a couple of scholarships available. Click here for details and sign up your student today!

If you have questions, email Tiffany.
