In November 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt boarded USS Iowa for a top-secret journey across the Atlantic on the way to Allied meetings with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin. The Captain's Cabin was modified for the president and became his shipboard home during the voyage.

The ship later became connected to other presidents and national moments, helping earn the name Battleship of Presidents. Ronald Reagan used IOWA as a presidential reviewing platform during Liberty Weekend in 1986, and the vessel has served as a backdrop for presidential addresses, memorials, and public events across multiple eras.
