HUP-2 Retriever Helicopter
A rate look at early naval helicopter aviation.HUP-2 Retriever Helicopter
Step inside the story of naval aviation through one of the last remaining Piasecki HUP-2 Retriever helicopters from the Korean War era.
Designed for rescue, transport, and shipboard operations, the HUP-2 represents the vital role helicopters played in connecting sailors, ships, and missions at sea. Its compact design and distinctive tandem rotors allowed it to operate from the limited deck space available aboard Navy vessels.
Displayed aboard Battleship USS IOWA, the restored helicopter offers visitors an up-close look at an important chapter in naval aviation history and the crews who flew, maintained, and depended upon these aircraft.
