I wanted to share a quick update. We were recently informed that the Secretary of the Navy has withdrawn from the Navy Museum land swap deal for the new museum in Washington, D.C. While it’s too early to know how this may affect their efforts, I wanted to keep you informed. You can read more about it here: https://
Our first experience, Great Ships, has received rave reviews from all who have seen it. This week, the engineering and IT teams are completing punch list items and will shift next week to their regular project schedule. Meanwhile, the tour team is ramping up updates and reprogramming existing experiences to align more closely with the objectives of the Surface Navy Museum Life of a Sailor experience.
Yesterday, we continued refining the budget and scripts for the next set of experiences to be built. To date, we have raised and expended approximately $3 million toward the Phase 1 experience elements (excluding infrastructure, building, and park). We have $1.5 million remaining to raise and expend over the next seven months.
We need your help to host one or more receptions with your friends and potential donors to experience the new Great Ships exhibit and learn about what we’re building in the months ahead. To plan your reception, please let Kyle and me know your preferred date and time.
We would be grateful if you could also help fund the hosting costs—approximately $1,500—to minimize the financial impact on the organization.
You can reach Kyle at kaube@labattleship.com or me at jwilliams@labattleship.com to schedule your reception(s).
