Hello Team,

I want to provide an update on our activities and initiatives.

Iowa State Fair Booth:

Our booth at the Iowa State Fair has been a significant success so far. We’ve achieved several key objectives:

  • Updated the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and legislators on the status of the ship and decks
  • Engaged in discussions with other government officials
  • Interacted with thousands of Iowans, collecting ten pages of signatures supporting the ship and $2,500 in donations

This work will be essential to continue receiving critical support towards the repairs and maintenance of the ship.

Upcoming Events:

Next week, Mike Shatynski (Chairman of the Board) and Rick Easton (Ambassador Lead) will represent us at the Surface Navy Association West event.

They will provide updates on the progress of the new museum build to those involved with the Surface Navy.

Future Plans:

  • Lost at Sea Exhibit: we will begin the dismantling of this exhibit, which was intended to be in place for five years, to make way for the Surface Navy Museum.
  • Museum and Pavilion Construction: We are working on proof of concept and construction drawings for the Surface Navy Museum. We are addressing some challenges to ensure a sustainable build and complete the pricing estimate. The scope of the museum will depend on the funds secured. Similarly, we will be completing construction drawings for the park and pavilion and seeking permits for construction. We currently have $6.7 million allocated for this project.
  • Operational Efficiency: We are revamping our operational systems to enhance efficiency and support our growing projects.
  • Economic Monitoring:  We’ve experienced a decline in attendance over the past couple of months, consistent with trends in local hotels. However, our donations and revenue per guest remain strong, indicating that we are managing this dip effectively.
  • VPAN Engagement: I’ve been working closely with the VPAN team to expand our reach to veterans and strengthen our relationship-driven programs.

Best wishes for a productive week ahead!
