Museum Update 2 November 2022

Another Historic Year Aboard Battleship IOWA

2022 has been a year of many milestones for Pacific Battleship Center – from celebrating the Battleship IOWA Museum’s 10-year anniversary, to receiving the Congressional Designation to officially become the National Museum of the Surface Navy…not to mention receiving $6.7M from the State of CA!

We expect 2023 to be another big year for our organization, but we need your help to achieve the goals we have set.

When you make a (tax-deductible) donation to us, you can be confident that your dollars are making a noticeable impact and improving the lives of those we reach. Click one of the buttons below to make your year-end gift today.

Where we need your support…

National Museum of the Surface Navy

Help build the only National Museum that honors the thousands of ships and millions of sailors that maintain Freedom of the Seas by defending our oceans, protecting the flow of trade and commerce, and leading technological innovation for the benefit of the free world.

Veterans West at Battleship IOWA

Support the accessibility and delivery of the impactful and important programming provided by Veterans West, the military and veterans affairs department of Pacific Battleship Center.

Education Programs

Provide unique and unforgettable experiences and engagements for visitors of the Battleship IOWA, immersing youth in the in-situ environment of the Battleship IOWA and promoting interest in a variety of STEM fields.

Community Programs

Strengthen Battleship IOWA’s presence in the County of Los Angeles by supporting its involvement in disaster response readiness, first responder training, and making the LA Waterfront a destination location.

Hull Preservation

Battleship IOWA has approximately 1,800 feet of hull exposed to the naturally corrosive reaction at the wind and water line. Without treatment, the damage will become irreversible, and the future of the ship and organization will be in jeopardy.

General Operating

Donate in support of our mission and we will allocate your gift to where it is needed most.

We are grateful for all of our supporters, and we thank you for your consideration of making a contribution to a mission area that is important to you.

Scuttlebutt Podcast | EXTRA

Every so often, an event of truly epic proportions becomes the stuff of legend. The engagement off Samar during the larger Battle of Leyte Gulf on Oct. 25, 1944 is such an event.

Full of humbling, heroic sacrifice, this incredible naval engagement resulted in a U.S. victory that ultimately cost Japan the war.

Presented during our Freedom of the Seas awards gala by Rear Admiral Sam Cox, USN (Ret.), Director of Naval History and Heritage Command, here is a fascinating overview of the Battle off Samar.
